ジョン・ジョン・フローレンスがメインスポンサーのハーレーを離れる

WSLのオフィシャルインスタグラムや複数の海外メディアの報道によると、2回のWSLワールドチャンピオンで今年の東京オリンピックサーフィン競技でアメリカ代表としての出場が確実視されているジョン・ジョン・フローレンス(JJF)とメインスポンサーであるハーレーの間で契約更新がなされなかったようだ。JJFがハーレーのライダーとなったのは2013年の事。当時で史上最高額での契約と噂されていたが、その金額は明らかになっていない。ハーレーといえば2013年はメジャーブランドのナイキの傘下にあったが、昨年、ナイキは海外のファンドにハーレーを売却し、ブランドに行方はどうなるか？が話題になっていた。2020年明け早々にはJJFと同じくブランドの顔であったロブ・マチャドが長年のパートナーシップの解除を発表したばかりだった。なお、JJFサイドからはまだ何も発表されていないが、驚くようなスポンサーとの契約があるのか？同業界の別ブランドへの移籍となるのか？今後の動向に注目だ。

He could see my frustrations with contest surfing and knew that I would be better off just surfing and being me.
